A Green Halloween

by Robert Lobitz

Everyone who decorates their house for Halloween knows how important the right lighting is to achieve the spookiest effects. But using more power to run seasonal lighting can have a spooky effect on your wallet. If you like celebrating the season with Halloween lights, consider using LED's if you do not already. They are an investment up front but will save you money in the long run.

LED lights can last 25,000 to 50,000 hours. Incandescent lights last only around 1,000 to 2,000 hours. LED's are also safer. They use little energy to run and cool to the touch. This makes them safer around children and also opens up your options when it comes to choosing the best place to hang them. They are safe and great options to string around plants and shrubs.

A single white or yellow LED light looks great in a jack-o-lantern and doesn't leave a waxy mess. Strings of LED lights are good for lining up walkways or around door frames to make your house festive and safe. Pick up lights with black-colored wiring to better obscure the strings and make the lights shine more prominently.

For the truly fiendish, LED lights can make an impressive spider web. To make this you will need rope and several anchoring points around your front yard. Simply lay out the rope in a crisscrossing spider web pattern and then wrap strings of lights around them.

Make your Halloween green this year and use energy saving and cost-efficient LED lights!
